A Positive Lifestyle Change is more than Weight Loss and Exercise.

A New Year has come and gone, and maybe those weight loss resolutions to lose weight or diet have gone also. So many of us have tried diet after diet only to gain all the weight back again. If you are looking to make weight loss permanent without having to diet, we welcome you here. Last year was a very bizarre year with a lot of changes--good, bad, or otherwise. Did anyone else experience such a year. Just as we thought, we are all in this together.

The most difficult change we have experienced in that last couple of years were our children growing into hormonal teenagers, and cutting our apron strings heartlessly. We also experienced the changes in ourselves and how hard it actually is to lose weight and get on a daily exercise regimen. We have learned to take weightloss away from dieting and make it part of our life. Once we understood weight loss needed to begin emotionally, we finally began our journey to true and lasting weightloss.

Our emotional awakening to weight loss began one day in our living room listening to our teenagers' loud music, and the clicks on their laptop keyboards going a mile a minute, we came across a quote by Reinhold Niebuhr: "Change is the essence of life. Be willing to surrender what you are for what you could become."

Reading that statement gave us an "Aha!" moment. We let go of the demanding that life must be certain, simple, or peaceful. It was such a wonderful release. We have decided to make our New Years Resolution about welcoming change with an eager heart. This is our year to think positive thoughts, to love and respect ourselves, lose our unwanted pounds, and to gain the health that we have always wanted to attain.

Here are 5 ideas to help us to accept change:

  1. Anticipate Change: We already know how hard it is to lose weight and the difficulties of maintaining. We are right there with you struggling each day. We know everyday is a new challenge and we are anticipating the changes that we have to make in our lives to lose our weight and maintain fantastic health.
  2. Don't Make Change Your Enemy: There are going to be times when you are put in a situation when you are not going to have healthy foods to eat, or able to go exercise at the fitness center. It is ok; make a genuine friendship with change, in whatever form it comes in. Eat less or get out your walking shoes and enjoy the outdoors.
  3. Relax Into The Mystery: There is so much in life that we will never understand with our brains, or our frightened hearts. In times of change, we need to be patient and gentle with ourselves and relax. Add Meditation daily to your weight loss regimen. It helps to calm the anxious spirit in us that comes with change. It not only helps bring peace with change, but it helps us see change with a more positive light.
  4. Receive Changes Gratefully: Sometime we forget to look for the positive changes in our lives. During weight loss we are always watching the scales and sometimes we get depressed by watching the weight slowly decrease. Look at yourself in a different light, everyday write down a few things about yourself that you are grateful for. For example, I am grateful I don't have to carry around that half a pound anymore, I am grateful that I walked around the block, or just be grateful and love and accept the person that you are.
  5. Get Active: Get involved in some kind of group. Weight loss isn't all about dieting, exercise and motivation, it is about change. Get involved with Special Olympics , join a bike club or a running group. Life isn't all about weight loss, exercise and dieting. It is about being living life to the fullest, and becoming the healthiest and happiest person you can be.

So as the old year fades and changes into a brand new year, ask yourself what this year is going to bring you. What is going to make you come alive? Don't think about it, accept change and be all that you can be!
