Exercising and Drinking Water

Our bodies are made up of over 75% water, and as we all know we can't live without water. The fact is that we can only live 3 days without water under the most perfect of conditions. Water is being replaced with soft drinks and other sugar sweetened refreshments. Always keep in mind that water is the healthiest drink you can consume and necessary for maintaining a healthy body.

Your personal needs for water depend on your lifestyle, your exercise routine, your weight and the temperature you are living in. Research has proven that over 2/3 of adults don't drink enough water on a daily basis. Drinking water on a regular basis replenishes your body, keeps it hydrated and allows it to function.

The majority of us wait until we are thirsty to drink water. Always keep in mind that feeling thirsty isn't always a reliable gauge that the body needs water. By the time you are thirsty you are already dehydrated. Therefore, drinking water regularly is much better than waiting until you are thirsty.

It is very important that you don't substitute alcoholic or caffeinated beverages for water. The reason behind this is because these types of drinks are diuretic and cause you to lose more weight through increased urination. You may think and feel as if you are getting more water through these beverages, but the fact is that you are letting it go almost as fast as you drink it.

Anytime you exercise, you need more water. When you perspire, your body loses quite a bit of water. For each pound lost due to exercise, you need to drink 2 cups of water. Did you know you even lose water when you sleep? By drinking a glass of water before bedtime, you can wake up with your body functioning like it should.

It is obvious that when you are sick you need more water than at any other time. When you get a cold, your body becomes dehydrated more quickly. You can prevent this by drinking more water when you are sick.

There are several opinions on purified water. Some say it has more benefits but this is something you need to explore on your own and make your own decisions on what types of water you think your body needs.

Always make a habit of drinking water daily. You should keep a bottle of water with you at all times and drink it throughout the day. My husband carries a cooler filled with water bottles with him to work and drinks it all day long. We all need to teach ourselves to drink water instead of the other beverages on the market. The beverages that are sold on the market do not replenish the nutrients that are bodies require.

Let's all promise to drink our water!
