Have you ever been in a clothing store browsing the aisles and you come across these sweat pants that have a lot of stretch in them. You try them on and the thought of "These would be great for when I am having a fat day". What is a fat day? Is it a holiday? Did someone put it on some calendar somewhere? When did the word fat turn into an emotion or a feeling? What does it mean to feel fat?
Like Labor Day or Presidents Day, fat is important to have a day of it's own and the sad part of all this is it comes more than once a year! If the number on your bathroom scales go up or if you can't fit into a pair of your favorite jeans then you are having a fat day. If you go home for Christmas and one of your relatives or friends make some kind of a rhetorical comment about the way your clothes fit, you end up having a fat day. That is all it takes to make a fat day, no matter what day of the month it may be.
When we are ashamed of the extra weight that we carry we tend to deem them fat days. A good fat day is not complete without the tears, negative self talk, and wearing the biggest clothes we have in the closet. These are the days when we get out our special fat day pants. Usually we feel unloved and invisible to the opposite sex.
So how do we keep "fat" from becoming an emotion? We recognize the truth about fat which is fat is just fat! There are no emotions attached to it. We must recognize that the emotions of shame and negative self talk are just dysfunctional interferences and we have to realize that treating fat as an emotion will not help us reach your goals. If we could use the emotional comparison of losing weight to cleaning the junk out of the garage, we would all be happier and perhaps even a little skinnier.
Here are some tips for handling a fat day:
- Eat Healthy: When shopping for foods, make healthier selections.
- Get Moving: Exercise is the making of a beautiful and healthy body. If you can't make it to a gym to exercise, walk, take the stairs or find something else to get yourself moving.
- Feel Good About Yourself: Wear something that makes you feel wonderful. Resist getting out your fat pants and hiding in your clothes. Celebrate the way you look right now! Put on some of your favorite lipstick, sexy shoes, or choose something that yells "I feel great!".
- Positive People: Hang out with positive people. Avoid the whiners in your life. Surround yourself in a positive atmosphere and feel the energy positive people give out. Inspire the very best in yourself.
- Do unto others: Do something kind for someone. Visit an elderly person, pay someone a compliment, or maybe give someone a hug who is having a bad day. You have the power to change another persons life by being kind and you reap the rewards by having the power to transform your life for a higher purpose. Others will appreciate and value you, so in return you will learn to appreciate and value yourself. Remember that kindness begins with loving care for yourself.
So do something kind for yourself and others, put that body in motion, shop for healthier foods and take the walk of life with your head held high. You may not be perfect but there is nothing more beautiful and more appealing than a person with a clean garage.
