I have been overweight most of my adult life. I honestly believe I have tried almost every diet that has come along and spent tons of money paying for commercial weight loss companies to help me in my quest. I have failed at each and ever turn that I have taken. I honestly believe that being overweight affects our realistic perception of ourselves and our abilitities to lose our excess weight. The negative side effects of being overweight is found in our self doubts. Over weight people take things too personally, and tend not to trust in themselves. Overweight people all too often experience low self esteem, feel unloved followed by self critism and low self worth.
Everyone wants to feel loved and to be confident. Everyone wants to believe in themselves, trust their own abilities, not worry about what others think, and to be able to socialize with confidence. What do you think we need to do to change and feel this way? Sometimes I wonder if weight, is just a physical revelation of what the real issue may be. Ezra Taft Benson(world reknowned religious leader) said, "Some of the greatest battles will be fought within the silent chambers of our own soul."
Do you have a battle? What do you think it is? Are you willing to put your fear aside and challenge yourself? How can we take that first step and change our life for good? Let's make a promise to ourselves not to be a victim of our weight and really mean it this time. Call a friend, join some kind of support group, educate ourselves on weight loss, confide in our family and friends, but say good-by to the feeling of being a victim, and take charge of your body, mind and soul. You are the only one that can do this.
Trying something new can always be a challenge but let's take the challenge by the horns and just get it done. Look at your past weight loss history. Then take a gander at your personal history. Look at the patterns that you have been following, I am not asking you to judge yourself so don't. Look at it all as an important learning curve to your success. What can you do to change those patterns? How can you start a fresh new life from this point? Just focus on what you can do this very moment to be successsful in losing weight permanently. Become your own cheerleader and just do whatever it takes! The fact is that you will gain more self confidence with each step you take to change your mind set and lose your weight. Ask yourself these four questions and take action on them, no matter what your answers should be.
- What do I need to do to gain more self confidence?
- What do I need to change?
- What can I do right now that I am not doing?
- What would my very first step need to be?
Let us put our fears aside, commit ourselves to accept changes, and then take our first step today. Take the challenge, enjoy the ride and finish the adventure.
