Lifestyle Changes Work---Diets Don't

If you've tried to lose weight again and again, just to gain it all back plus a little more----you are not alone. Many people are on this same roller coaster ride. A large majority of people would agree that losing weight is a tough on going battle. People are continually trying to lose weight as proven by the fast growing multi-billion dollar weight loss industry. In order to win the battle of losing weight and developing a healthy lifestyle you must define what success is about.

Is success the number on the scale? How about your clothing size? Maybe success is to gain better health? If a healthy eating plan is followed and an exercise routine is included in your daily life, it is more than likely that you will be successful. In order to achieve real success in your weight loss efforts, you should be setting realistic goals and achieving them along the course of your journey. Your ultimate achievement should be permanent weight loss.

The odds are always against people trying to lose weight. Studies have shown that people who are trying to lose weight by dieting are more likely to gain all their weight back plus more. Losing weight successfully is not done by dieting, but by changing our lifestyle permanently. Here are some tips for personal changes that will help you lose your weight and gain a healthier lifestyle.

  • First make the decision to lose your weight permanently, not to just reach a number on the scale. Decide that you are going to change your bad habits, and instill good habits for the rest of your life.
  • Do not go on a diet. Learn as much as you can about healthy cooking, by preparing healthy foods for yourself and your family. Learn portion control. Sometimes it isn't the food that we consume but the amount that we are accustomed to eating.
  • Do not remove all your favorite foods from your life, but limit them and make them an occasional treat. A diet creates deprivation, we want a new lifestyle that is healthy. To think you will never eat your favorite foods is a setting for failure.
  • Weigh yourself everyday. Some experts will tell you that by weighing yourself everyday is not needed, but I disagree. It's important to keep track of your weight, so you can see when you weight fluctuates and make changes if your weight begins to go in the opposite direction.
  • Add some kind of physical activity to your life. If you aren't used to exercise then it can be distressing and difficult to start, but you can do it if you choose too. Start slow and try to find physical activities that you like to do like dancing, walking with a friend or animal, bowling or golf. Not everyone likes to exercise especially when starting, but the benefits to exercise are tremendous.

Fit Day - Make Good Food Choices

These are just a few tips to help your weight loss successful. The most important factor in being a success is not to diet, but to make a total lifestyle change. Changing your lifestyle will change your health, your well being and your life.
