Phase V: Living a Healthy Lifestyle
You are now ready to begin your journey to the new you. You are now ready to do what is needed to become the person that already lives inside of you. You are now ready to let that inner person rule your life. You are now ready to stop having to worry so much about heart disease, stroke, cancer, obesity, depression, diabetes, osteoporosis, back pain, high blood pressure, cholesterol, gallbladder disease, sleep disorders, gout and an entire host of other ailments that will speed you on to an early death.
One thing you need to do is weigh yourself everyday. You do this not to glory in a daily weight loss or fret about gaining a pound. You do this to learn how different food affects your body. A digital scale with ounce read outs has proven very effective. You use the scale in conjunction with a daily food journal. There will be days you do everything right and still gain weight. Combining the food journal (writing down EVERYTHING you eat.) with the scale will help you target the foods in your new lifestyle that have an adverse affect. (I have learned that eating one portion of almonds for me is like eating lead weights.) You need to learn how foods affect you and this is observed by weighing yourself daily, each and every morning. When you weigh yourself be sure to record it also. As the weigh loss grows so does the excitement and the desire to lose more weight which begins the cycle to a healthier lifestyle.
The part that really helps is when you start exercising. Unfortunately this is the part that scares away many, many people. The hardest part of exercising is the first 14 times you do it. The simple fact will be is that you just do not want to exercise. After you have done it 5 times a week for almost 3 weeks something amazing happens. You begin to enjoy exercising! This article will not go into all the chemical reactions that occur when exercising but suffice it to say you will begin to look forward to the “high” you get and want to exercise. Vary the routine and what you do. Walking is great, health centers are good too. What you choose to do is irrelevant, you just need to start raising the heart rate and do it 5 times a week for at least 30 minutes a day. As you exercise give up any and all notions that you will reduce the area of flab under your chin or flatten your tummy by a particular exercise. The concept of spot reducing is false and will never work. By exercising you will “melt” the fat away on your body similar to a candle melting in excessively hot room.
Long term weight loss is a series of choices connected together through time. As many people travel down the weightloss path they start by searching for quick weightloss solutions. After a few attempts at fast weight loss despair starts to set in because of repeated failures. These failures might come from weightloss programs or a variety of weight loss tips. Failed programs may range from la weight loss or The Atkins Diet or consuming weightloss supplements like they were candy. Then something begins to happen through the series of failures. The person begins to doubt their ability to ever shed the extra weight. At this point in time a small glimmer of hope begins to appear with the realization that all of the failures were the result of flawed ideas. Almost all of the ideas were generated out of corporate quest for profits. Look at the disclaimer listed under all diet plans that states “RESULTS NOT TYPICAL.” Well, if the results are not typical then show me the typical results. Do not show me some skinny used to be fat exception to the diet. They do not display the “TYPICAL” results because you would not spend your money on their product. You were not the failure, the diet plan was the failure that got in the way of your journey.
So now here you are at a crossroad of your desire to lose weight. The ability to lose weight and to keep it off is all about your own personal desire and your fortitude to educate yourself and make the correct choices of eating and exercise. The correct choices do not string together success over time by joining a fad diet you couldn’t possible endure for life. Correct choices that string together success come from entering a weight loss plan that you can enjoy for life. You must learn to balance what you eat and only eat what you need. You must take control of your destiny and stop allowing corporations selling you what they make you think you need. In order to maintain long term weightloss you do not need special foods or pills, you only need some accurate information. You need to learn to educate yourself and live your life like you want to live. Only after you have exhausted all the quick loss solutions will you embrace the reality that long term weight loss is all about the choices you make on a daily basis. These choices string themselves together through time and the end result is not only a lighter you, it results in a better you. This new person will come out on top of the world and ready to enjoy life like it is worth living.
Long term weightloss…it is all about the decisions you make all day…everyday.
