Getting Motivated

This morning I was sitting on the couch watching "Miami Ink", trying to figure out a way not to go to the fitness center. I promised my husband last night that I would go but getting out of the house is sometimes difficult for me. I tried telling myself I had to clean the house first, and that I hadn't slept well last night and I was super tired. I just want you to know that I did go!

I believe the pattern of excuses for not exercising is all too popular with many of people. It is hard to pull yourself away from a great TV show and we all have moments in our lives where we just want to sit and veg. If we have too many of these impulses we will never reach our goals and eventually give up on ourselves both physically and mentally.

Please do not get me wrong, there are times to rest, especially if you are running a fever, taking care of an injury or something real. If you are just thinking of excuses then you need to grab your boot straps and get moving.

Motivational Tips:

  1. Just get up and do it! If you are unmotivated to exercise just go anyway. Once you put your workout clothes and get into the fitness center something just happens in your mind and you are motivated and when you leave you walk a little straighter and feel a little taller.
  2. Make sure you don't go to the fitness center on an empty stomach. You need your energy to work out, this is important. I find out if I work out hard and haven't eaten I get really nauseated.
  3. Set up realistic goals for yourself and then increase your goals when they get too easy. Raise the bar a little! When losing weight and getting in shape, use caution where your health is concerned. Eat several small meals a day to keep your body nourished and exercise with safety and most of all just do it and have fun!
