Obesity and Mortality
Obesity and mortality go hand in hand, when it comes to our health. Obesity is responsible for 300,000 deaths annually in the United States, it is the second leading cause of preventable death in the US. We are killing ourselves by being fat.
Suicide By Fat
The post man rings the door bell. You answer the door, and he hands you a beautiful envelope that does not have a return address on it. Anxiously you go to the sofa, forgetting to close the door behind you. You open the letter, and it is from someone who professes to know you very well, but claims that they haven’t had the chance to meet you yet. You think this sounds totally bizarre, but your interest still lingers, because of the mystery that it holds.
The scenario above sounds a little out of the ordinary, but the truth is that we all need, and seek a little mystery, and love in our lives. Right? Guess the letter writer knew something about us after all.
The other day I was in one of my thinking modes, and decided to take a long honest look at myself, and my weight issues. In all honesty it frightened me. I know that there are a lot of people around the world that have obesity issues just like myself, so I thought I would share my thoughts with compassion, and love. I think that facing me is one of the hardest things I will ever do, but one of the most important things that needs to be done.
We are killing ourselves with food! Yes, you read that correctly. I am convinced that many people are killing themselves slowly with food especially. If you are reading this article. then chances are you too are on the slow obesity boat heading north towards death. We need to stop doing this, and the reason I am writing this is so that we can help you understand why you need to stop too.
Now you may be like myself, and think; I am only xxx amount of pounds or so overweight, and I know lots of people who are my weight, and that amount of weight never killed anyone. The truth is that it really does not matter how much excess fat you have, eating too much food is a form of suicide. It is a lot like smoking, but much more illusive.
Question: What do we do to overeat?
Answer: To overeat we have to do some serious killing.
Huh?
It is so hard to think of it in that way, but hopefully you will come to an understanding when we are done explaining it to you. First off we kill our ability to hear our body’s message center telling us NO MORE FOOD. We can feel the tightening in our stomachs, and our taste buds seem to dull. We kill the awareness of our body’s sensations, and we just keep eating, and eating. Then the gas starts building up in our stomachs, and we start to get really uncomfortable, but we even kill those feelings, and just keep eating more of our chosen poison.
We believe that before we even started killing our sensations, that we had already murdered our body’s cry for healthy foods that would have made it stronger, and healthier. Our bodies beg us for fresh vegetables, salads, ripe fruit, and lean meats, but we just ignore the messages with thoughts of Mickey D’s burgers, and greasy fries floating around in our minds.
We believe that we now feel this would have been enough killing, but we don’t think so. Our thoughts seem to tell us that our most dangerous food related murders have to do with how often we use food to kill our connection to life itself. We too believe that this is a form of suicide. We here at I Choose Thin believe that we use food to disconnect from some of our experiences in our lives. We eat instead of feeling, we eat instead of belonging, and we eat rather than showing up on the stage of our own special existence.
Are you feeling as upset as we were with our thoughts? We hope you are at least a little bit disturbed because we got the point, and we wanted to get your attention. We want you to stop, and think of overeating as a form of killing yourself. If you have faced this truth with us then you might consider changing your life before it dies beneath its wall of fat. If the wall of fat has already been built, then you should consider tearing it down, and start living again. We mean really living every precious minute, hour, day, month, and even all the years we have left on this Earth.
Remember the story of receiving a beautiful letter at the start about everyone needing love. We have not written this article for you to hate yourself, or your fat because this is part of you. We just wanted to wake you up like we have woken up. We also want you to wake up your body, and your life. Time is on our side my friends because If you are still breathing, and you are still reading this then there is time to make that long sought after, and elusive change. We can wake ourselves up to the decisions that we make each, and every day. We need to decide to live instead of using food to kill who we are, and what we are feeling, and what we have to share with each other. We need to make a decision and decide to live! Think about it because ultimately the decision is yours. Get healthy and live with us!
We need to stop the obesity, quit worrying about our mortality, and live a long healthy happy life.
