Simple Ways To Make Exercise a Habit

When I first started to write this article, I thought to myself, "Who am I kidding!". I am the last person to be writing ways to make exercise a habit when I can't even do this myself. I truly believe I am the laziest person on Earth when it comes to exercise. I would love to lose weight and be fit but yet here I am sitting in front of the television with a cold Pepsi in one hand and something chocolate in the other. How can it be that I want to lose weight so badly but I am still choosing to hang on to my bad habits? The main problem is that I have no motivation and I believe that is one of the main key points to making exercise fun and easy.

There is no way to make exercise an easy habit to gain. It takes commitment, dedication and a just do it attitude these days. We seem to get so busy with our lives that we tend to forget about our own health and fitness. We put ourselves and our health on the very bottom of our priority lists. Here are some tips below to help us get our rears in gear and get moving.

  • You can turn almost anything into some form of exercise. You can do squats while using the bathroom. Stretch your legs while you are stretching those fingers on the remote to the tv. Just moving your body is getting exercise and it is better that doing nothing at all.
  • Incorporating exercise into your daily routine. This is essential in achieving a healthier lifestyle. Your dog would love going for a walk with you. Instead of paying your teenager to mow the lawn, you mow it, it will save you 20 bucks and you will gain a healthier body. Head out to the beach for a fun time jumping the waves or playing in the sun.
  • Talk to your family about the benefits of exercise. Get them to motivate you to exercise and for your bonus you get them to exercise with you. It is also a great time to spend some quality time with your loved ones.
  • We have all heard these things a million and one times but I will say it again, park your car furthest from the store doors and walk, take the stairs instead of the elevator and walk instead of driving to short destinations.

Just stop and think about the things in your life that you can tweak just to get in some exercise. You don't have to run out and get a membership to a gym or buy a treadmill. Look at your life and see where you can add a little exercise. My mom taught me when I was a little girl to turn up the radio and dance your floor clean. I remember Saturday mornings when mom would turn on the music and and turn it up and we would dance our floors clean. I seem to have forgotten about the little things. Let's choose to make exercise a habit in our lives and choose to be healthy and fit.
