Weight Loss Exercise Goals
I am 48 years old and I am so out of shape, that I can’t even complete one pull up or one sit up. I need to set up some weight loss exercise goals as I travel down the path of wellness and health towards my goal weight.
I decided that in the next 6 months I am going to run 3 miles in less than 18 minutes and I will be able to do 20 pull ups and 80 sit ups in 2 minutes. Heck I was able to do it 28 years ago so 6 months should be more than achievable. I am currently 100 pounds overweight, and this goal is a recipe for disaster.
If I don’t end up dead on the track I will surely give up because of failure. I think I will set myself up for success by creating a realistic goal than set myself up for failure.
Realistic Exercise Goals
If you want to set a long term goal that is fine, but it is suggested that you only do so after you have determined your short term goals. If you want to run 3 miles then set your first goal to be able to walk a mile in under 9 minutes.
Let’s set a goal to be able to do this in 30 days. Instead of 20 pull ups in 6 months try to do one in 6 weeks. You and only you are the master of your destiny. Only you know what is, and what is not achievable.
Before you set any goals you need to get out there and try to walk the talk. You need to see if you can lift 20 pounds 10 times. Take the time needed for yourself to determine what you need to do for yourself in terms of physical ability.
I Was In A Race with Myself and Lost
My father had a saying when I grew up and it has stuck with me all these years. Whenever someone would worry about what someone thought he would ask if that person paid our bills.
My mother would ask if her hair looked alright and my Dad would say it was fine. Then Mom would say that Cathy was going to be there and she wanted to look just right. My father would then say “Why does it matter? She does not pay our bills!” I have always taken this lesson to heart and have applied it to the time I spend in the health club.
I do not worry about how long I try to walk on the treadmill, because the stranger next to me will think I am really fat. I do not worry about how many pounds I lift when the man with all the muscles is in the area.
I go to exercise and do not give a damn about how others perceive me. I wear a stained tee shirt and my shorts may not even match, but I do not care. I go to the gym for myself, and I politely go about my fitness and attempt to achieve the goals that will benefit me and me alone.
I am not rude to anyone but I am there for me. I use the gym and kind of chuckle at my fellow woman who are all made up and wear earrings and are afraid to perspire.
As you travel in your early days of fitness you need to set your weight loss exercise goals in such a way that they will benefit you. Set yourself up with goals that will only have positive results.
Start small, go slowly and be consistent. Be as energetic as you can on your trip to being healthy. A series of smaller achievable goals that have rewards will add up in a big way if done consistently over time.
The smaller goals will have no direction other than colliding right into your long term goals as the long term goals become more and more achievable. Start small and end thin by setting realistic weight loss exercise goals.
