- Drink eight glasses of water a day. Slimming pills have a diuretic effect, and can cause you to dehydrate. So drink up!
- Take the recommended dose. Over dosing can increase the side effects of the diet pill.
- Remember to listen to your body, Check your pulse, and feel if your heart beats feel normal. If your pulse is 90 or higher, discontinue use of the diet pill it isn't for you.
- A diet pill usually comes with instructions, and a diet plan enclosed in the box. You will need to reduce your caloric intake in order to lose weight.
- Never take diet pills over 3 months. They can cause health risks.
- Always consult your doctor before going on any kind of weight loss program, or pill to make sure you are healthy.
Types of Diet Pills
There are two types of diet pills:
- Prescription weight loss pills are regulated by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). The FDA monitors the side effects of each of the drugs that they endorse.
- Over the Counter Drugs (OTC) are not regulated by the FDA. They are considered a food substitute. Beware that these diet pills are not FDA tested, approved, and may cause serious side effects up to, and including death.

The possible side effects of some diet pills are: nervousness, restlessness, insomnia, high blood pressure, fatigue, hyperactivity,heart arrhythmia's, palpitations, congestive heart failure, heart attack, stroke, headaches, dry mouth, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, intestinal disturbances, tightness in the chest, tingling in extremities, excessive perspiration, dizziness, disruption in menstrual cycle, change in libido, hair loss, blurred vision, fever, urinary tract infections, dehydration and more. Overdoses can cause tremors, confusion, hallucinations, shallow breathing, renal failure, heart attack, convulsions and death.
Do Weight Loss Drugs Work?
Diet supplements work for short term weight loss. The long term effects are not really known in all brands of diet pills. Slimming pills aren't the final solution to losing weight. They should be used only as a tool and used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise.
