It really doesn't matter if you have 2 pounds to lose, or 300 pounds to lose. There is only one way to lose your weight, and that is to eat healthier, exercise, and change your mind set. These methods go hand in hand, and work towards your success.

Several people complain about being overweight. They talk about it to everyone around them, but all they do is talk. They aren't willing to do what it takes to lose weight, and to exercise. Losing weight takes dedication, and hard work. In order to lose weight you have to be a doer, and not just a talker.

I have tried almost every diet out on the market. I have even tried the diets that are suppose to make you lose weight quickly. I haven't had weight loss surgery, but it has crossed my mind several times.

Weight loss has become easier than in my mom's times, when she just relied on here say and the uppers (diet pills) on the market. We now have resources that will teach us step by step instructions on how to lose weight. We have nutritional professionals that can tell us what food is good for us, and how much to eat. We have fitness guru's that can teach us to exercise.

It is a great time to start your journey to a healthy lifestyle. What you waiting for, you haven't got anything to lose. Hmmm odd statement huh, we want to be losers!!!!

  1. Write down the goals! (Really do this, stop now and write them down!) Don't procrastinate!! Goals help you see the big picture and give you something to work towards. Make sure that your goals are realistic. Set short term goals and long terms goals.
  2. Get up and start moving!! By this I mean if you like to walk then walk. Do it everyday. If you like to go shopping then do a lot of it. If you hear a song on the radio and it makes you want to dance, then by all means start dancing. When I was a young girl my mom would turn on her 1950's music and we would all grab a broom or dust mop and we would dance and laugh. If you love yard work, then pull the weeds, mow the lawn. If you like to clean then grab a mop, turn on some good music and clean your floors. You can turn anything into exercise so get moving and love what your doing. Exercise does not have to be a chore, yet exercising while performing the chores is a great idea.
  3. Got Support? Hmmm makes you think of got milk doesn't it? It is so important to have a support system in place. My husband is the greatest support system that I have.   4. Think Positive! Mind set is very important to your success. Stay positive even when things get tough. Remember that there are times when you will get off track. It is important to forgive yourself and to keep moving forward. Your thoughts can effect your weight loss so keep positive thoughts. This is so important.
  5. Eat!! How many times in your life has anyone told you to eat to lose weight. Make sure you are eating enough, because if you don't your body will go into starvation mode and your weight loss will stop .Don't skip any meals. The one meal everyone seems to miss is breakfast. We all need to eat, breakfast because it is the most important meal of the day. For snacks make sure you have lots of veggies and fruits around. This will help you with the munchies in between meals. Plan! Plan! Plan! Planning your meals out weekly will help you stay on track. You should have 3 meals a day with 3 snacks in between.
  6. Beware: Read labels on the food you buy! Become an expert in the grocery store by reading labels. Know exactly what you want to put in your cupboards, refrigerator and your stomach. Be health conscious when reading the labels. When reading the labels, read the ingredients as well. Understand portion size and analyze the label before you stick the food in your cart.
  7. Pictures: Before and After. I hate having my picture taken. In fact I hide from camera's. But on the flip side of getting your photo taken, you will be how motivated you can get by seeing a difference in the pictures. This will keep you on the road to success. If you dare, take the picture in your underwear so that you can see the full effect. Post it somewhere private so you can see it everyday and monitor your process through the months. Take a picture every 20 pounds and you will love what you see.
  8. Be Prepared! Don't go anywhere hungry. Going to a party, going to the movies or going to the supermarket could be detrimental if you are hungry. If you're worried about eating something you shouldn't then bring your own snack, or eat healthy before to go to the event. Always have a glass of water in your hand or nearby. This helps with the munchies and helps us get in our 64 ounces of water a day. Did you know that drinking cold water burns calories? Your body uses energy to heat up the water to your body temperature. How great is that!!! Water helps you curb your appetite and also minimizes sagging skin if you have a lot of weight to lose. Sounds like good stuff to me so drink up!
  9. Got Dairy?? Dieticians are finding out that calcium in our diets is the key to losing more weight than someone who doesn't have dairy in their diet. You should have 3 servings a day. I drink fat free milk but you can also have skim milk for obvious reasons. Fat free yogurt is excellent as well as cheese and cottage cheese. Sour cream and ice cream doesn't do a body good.

We need to figure out what makes us feel great both mentally and physically, this is a tell tale sign of what works for us.
